Nicolas Medina EL GIRASOL PINK BOURBON - WASHED Colombia

This farm, historically run by Nicolas’s son Abelardo, has produced some of the most dynamic and intense expressions of Pink Bourbon that we have tasted from Huila. This lot is no different. In the cup we find ripe blackberry, hibiscus, and lime zest.

Orders are roasted on Tuesday and shipped on Wednesday.

ABOUT NICOLAS MEDINA

Nicolas Medina is the father of Abelardo Medina, who has produced some of our highest-scoring Pink Bourbon lots to date. Abelardo has since stopped producing coffee, and Nicolas has continued the work in his place. The quality coming from this farm is among the most striking we have encountered, and we plan to visit as soon as we can to learn more about how this coffee is being grown and produced.

ABOUT PINK BOURBON

Pink Bourbon is a relatively new variety being grown primarily in and around Huila, Colombia. The variety has been identified genetically as an Ethiopian Landrace, but unfortunately, we cannot be any more specific as to its origins until there is a larger genetic database.

The cost of getting a coffee from cherry to beverage varies enormously depending on its place of origin and the location of its consumption. The inclusion of price transparency is a starting point to inform broader conversation around the true costs of production and the sustainability of specialty coffee as a whole.
